Resident students of the College and Radcliffe pledged a record first-night total of 914 pints of blood, as the annual P.B.H. fall drive got under way last night.
The Yardlings promised 213 pints, largest total from any single group solicited. Kirkland and Winthrop led the Houses with 88 pints, followed closely by Lowell, with 87. Dunster pledged 84 pints, Eliot and Leverett 76, Adams 43, and Claverly 31. Radcliffe promised 78 pints and the booth in the Square netted approximately 50 pledges.
Co-chairmen Laurence I. Alpert '54 and Gordon L. Brumm '53 said the results are about what they expected. Last year's first night total was 750 pints. "At the rate we're going," Alpert said last night, "we should reach our goal of 2,600 pints."
