Pitt Picks Coach; Jordan Stays Put

Yesterday's selection of Lowell (Red) Dawson as the new Pittsburgh head football coach spiked the earlier rumor that Crimson coach Lloyd Jordan might leave to accept that post at his alma mater.

The prediction that Jordan would leave Harvard-to fill the vacancy left by former coach Len Casanova appeared in the Boston Daily Record under Dave Egan's byline. This story listed alleged "irreconcilable differences" between Jordan and the administration.

At first Jordan refused to either confirm or deny the prediction, but later asserted that never had talked to Pitt Athletic Director Tom Hamilton about the job.

Dawson, past backfield coach at Michigan State, was given a three year contract with an undisclosed salary. He was first choice of Hamilton and of the student body.
