Varsity Runners Crush Crusaders; '55 Romps, 79-7

Holy Cross failed to produce anyone who remotely resembled a runner or weightman Saturday. The Crimson track team consequently swamped the Crusaders, 92 to 17. The freshman also ran away from Huntington, 79 to 7.

Despite the flimsy competition, Bob Twitchell, Jim Downey, Bob Mello, and Dwight Black all turned in top performances. Twitchell won both the dash and hurdles with times of 4.6 and 5.3 seconds respectively.

Downey turned in his best 1000 race of the year to win in 2:22.9, while Mello cleared 13 feet with case in the pole vault and just missed going over at 13 feet, 6 inches. Black continued his improvement in the weight throw with a winning toss slightly over 30 feet.

Rittenberg Wins Three

The freshmen provided much of the excitement in their meet with Huntington. Bob Rittenberg stood out with three wins in the high jump, hurdles, and broad jump. Rittenberg's trial time of 5.1 in the hurdles was particularly outstanding. He cleared the high jump with the bar at 6 feet and won the broad jump with a leap of 21 feet, 5 3/4 inches.

Alan Howe, newly-elected freshman captain, won two events--the 600-yard run and the 300. Dave Ingle turned in another good performance in the mile.
