REYNOLDS PITCHES NO-HITTER

The New York Yankees swamped the Boston Red Sox twice yesterday to clinch their 18th American League pennant in 30 years as Allie Reynolds pitched his second no-hit game of the season in the opener.

Reynolds is the second major leaguer to pitch two no-hit games in the same season. The feat had never been performed before in the American League.

Johnny Vandermeer of the Cincinnati Reds pitched two no-hitters in two consecutive starts to be the other man to turn the trick in one season. This was during the 1938 pennant race.
