GUIDE TO FIELDS OF CONCENTRATION

Those who have made easy A's in Math 1 and/or 2 may find that this is an insufficient indication of future success in the field.

Math 105, which usually follows Math 2, is much more difficult than the latter course, and many Math majors are led astray by initial successes.

Most Math concentrators intend to continue their studies at graduate schools and then go into college teaching, after having received their Ph.D.

Law schools, including the Harvard Law School are said to feel that majoring in Math gives the student a type of logical thinking valuable in the profession.

Men who are interested in the sciences but who do not want to be "protected from the cruel rays of the sun" every afternoon, and men who want a purely scientific and intellectual subject, will find a home in the Vansberg building, the Math Department headquarters.

Honors Paper Starts Early

Honors candidates may sometimes start their thesis in their sophomore years; it must consist at least in part of original work.

The Math tutorial system is usually fine. During the writing of the thesis, the tutees in the field meet, if they like, once every week with a tutor.
