J. David Bowen '51 and Roger A. Moore '53 won the two first prizes in the annual Boylston Speaking finals in Paine Hall last night. R. J. Larkin, Jr. '51, Marvin E. Mazie '52, and Edward L. Snow '53 captured second prizes. Bowen has now won the contest for three consecutive years.
Arthur M. Schlesinger, Francis Lee Higginson Professor of History, presented the winners with awards of $35 and $25 respectively.
Bowen's winning topic was the 17th meditation from "Devotions upon emergent Occasions" by John Donne. Moore's subject was entitled "The Creation: A Negro Sermon" by James Weldon Johnson.
Judges for the competition were; Schlesinger, the Reverend Mr. F. B. Kellogg D.D. '34, and Kenneth B. Murdock '16, Francis Lee Higginson Professor of English Literature.
