Student Porters Can Organize, A.F.L. Head Says; Not Against Plan

Student porters can be organized as well as the maids, if they want, Edward T. Sullivan, secretary of the A.F. of L. Central Labor Union, said last night. His union is now trying to organize a local here to replace the University Employees' Representative Association.

When asked why students who worked in the dining halls, where the serving women are under A.F.L. jurisdiction, are not organized, Sullivan replied that they were merely "transient employees." He added that student porters will probably fall under the same category.

Sullivan emphasized that his union will not work to abolish the student porter plan. "We believe in the right of men who need the financial aid to work as much as they like," he added.
