Writer, Nieman Fellow To Talk Tonight on Newspaper Positions

Two alumni and a Nieman Fellow will outline the possibilities in the fields of publishing, newspaper work, and freelance writing at 8 p.m. tonight in the Kirkland House Junior Common Room. Louis M. Lyons, Curator of the Nieman Fellowships, will moderate this career conference, the third in a series sponsored by the Office of Student Placement.

Bernard De Voto '18, author, will speak on free-lance writing. De Voto was formerly with the Saturday Review of Literature and is now editor of "The Easy Chair" department of Harper's Magazine.

Nieman Fellow Dana A. Schmidt, who will speak on "Opportunities in Newspaper Work," has been a foreign correspondent for both the United Press and the New York Times. He was the sole American correspondent in Czechoslovakia, until he left the country to avoid arrest a few months ago.

Arthur A. Clark '29, of the Editorial Department of the Houghton Mifflin Company, will cover publishing.
