Applications for jobs as student porters have been coming in at an "encouraging" rate, John U. Monro '34, Director of the Financial Aid Center, reported last night.
Up until yesterday, 39 college and graduate students had signed up for the program, which is to go into effect next year. Monro termed the response gratifying because his office has thus far confined itself to general public announcements about the jobs.
Later on, Monro intends to send letters to students who have signed priority work cards informing them of the availability of porter employment. They will be under no obligation to accept the jobs, he pointed out.
Students may sign up as porters at the Center, 54 Dunster Street, or at the Office of Student Placement, 30 Weld Hall. They will be paid 80 cents an hour and will work ten hours per week. The jobs will be worth approximately $300 for the year.
