"Emergency conditions" caused Radcliffe's Student Council executive board to waive its usual rule requiring a minimum of three presidential candidates for the coming Radcliffe Council elections, president Elizabeth Heaton '51 announced last night.

The Executive Board has power under the Student Government constitution to regulate the number of candidates required for an office without consulting the student body.

Reasons given for this change were that many potential candidates were unable to run because of speeded-up war marriages and uncertain plans for the future. Miss Heaton added that the duties of council president have "grown so that they preclude other activities." Steps are being taken to lessen the pressure of the job. One such step has been to relieve the vice-president of her current duties supervising Drumbeats and Song, so that she may aid the President.

Since Helen Margolis '52 left the competition, Maryalice McArdle '52 and Elizabeth Tucker '52 are the two remaining candidates for president.
