Permanent loss of voice was risked by a Marietta College dean who traveled 800 miles to testify on the integrity of Albert C. Knaus, Jr. 1E, at the latter's forgery trial yesterday.

Merrill R. Paterson, Marietta dean, told Judge Louis L. Green, of the East District Court, that he would not have come the distance with a serious throat ailment, if he wasn't convinced the 22 charges of larceny, forgery, and altering levelled against Knaus in court, were false. Knaus was formerly a Marietta student.

Eleven University employees, mostly graduate students, testified on the stand that they had not received their pay checks, and had not received their pay checks, and had reported this to their department heads. Rose Fairbanks, assistant comptroller of the University, said the defendant was one of the persons who had picked up the checks which were subsequently cashed.

Total value of the checks cashed is $700. After the prosecution had presented its preliminary arguments, Judge Green adjourned the court until 9 a.m. this morning.
