With two more days of its blood drive still to go, the University has scored an all-time record for a civilian collection in New England, Philip D. Levin '53, a chairman of the Phillips Brooks House blood drive, announced last night.
Yesterday, 401 students gave their blood in Memorial Hall, bringing the number of donors so far to 1,234. This, Levin said, is exactly 300 more than during the University's record-breaking blood week last spring.
The drive continues today and tomorrow, and to cope with an expected increase in donors, the Red Cross has added five extra beds to its former 20. Levin predicts they will be well utilized, since his schedule of donations shows P.B.H. may get over 500 donors on each of the two days.
Meanwhile, Howard McLure, chairman of Princeton's blood drive, announced. 1,700 Princetonians have pledged blood. This is equal to about 60 percent of the college's student body.
