General Dwight D. Eisenhower was not considered a "terrific success" as President of Columbia University, according to a statement by an unidentified Columbia professor that appeared in last Wednesday's Columbia Daily Spectator.
The professor went on the say that Eisenhower was not intellectually outstanding and that the general underestimated the complexity of his task as an educator, although his intentions were good. The professor concluded his statement by saying, "He may not have understood that the essence of a university is intellectual warfare."
