Straus Tightens Grip On Yard League Lead

Straus South's touch football squad held on to its National League lead yesterday by defeating Lionel, 19 to 12, as 12 of the Yard's 18 teams saw action in the day's contests.

Two passes by George Buckner were caught by John Schierl and Chiz Craster in the first half to give Straus its first two tallies. Art Reynolds added another six points on a last-quarter run.

Matthews South won its first game in four starts, topping Weld North, 13 to 0. A 20-yard pass from Dave Rochford to Ed Stabler was good for Matthews' initial touchdown, and another heave by Henry Johnson was caught by Norm Wyner just inside the Weld end zone.
