Massachusetts will send out its first call for childless married men sometime next month, Colonel Chester A. Furbush, State Selective Service Director, announced yesterday. Out of a pool of 4,000 potential inductees in this category, 147 will be inducted.

Husbands without children, and later 21-year olds, will fill the draft quotas for the next few months, Furbush added. January's call for 460 men will triple that for December, and childless married men are expected to constitute the major part.

The January national total is 60,000 and ordinarily Massachusetts' quota would be 1,800. But with a heavy backlog of voluntary enlistments in the state, smaller demands can be made on the Selective Service system. At the present time 10,000 men make up the backlog, which means that the number of inductees can be considerably decreased.
