Neil J. Smelser '52 of Phoenix, Arizona and Adams House, has won the Palfrey Exhibition, a cash award, for "being the most distinguished scholarship student in the Senior Class" this year, Dean Bender announced yesterday.
Smelser is a National Scholar, and was among the eight juniors elected to PhiBeta Kappa last year. He won the Edwards Whittaker Prize in his freshman year, and as a sophomore was awarded the Jacob Wendell Prize Scholarship.
He was also one of four men from the College who went to the Salzburg Seminar last year. At Salzburg he worked as Director of Athletics.
Smelser is a candidate for honors in Social Relations, and heads the College's Social Relations Society.
