Four low-scoring contests marked yesterday's activities in the two freshman touch football leagues. The day's games produced wins for Massachusetts, Lionel, and Stoughton, and one tied score.
In the American League, a bad pass from center resulted in a safety when a Matthews North passer was caught in his own end zone, and gave Stoughton the victory, 8 to 6. Stoughton led, 2 to 0, until the last play of the third period, when Matthews' Mike Basile heaved a touchdown pass to Paul Grand. Stoughton came back for a tally of their own on the very next play, however, when Al Kennedy caught a pass from Bill Beecher and scored after a 45-yard run. The loss was Matthews North's third in a row.
Mower Stopped on the Two
Holworthy and Mower battled to a 0 to 0 tie in the day's other American League contest. The only real scoring opportunity came in the second half when Mower drove down to the two-yard line but failed to crack Holworthy's defense.
