Draft headquarters last night clarified the new deferment policy for reservists.
Members of the Organized Reserve who enlisted before February 1 will be classified 1-D, and are exempt from induction. They will stay so long as they attend drills.
Members who enlisted between February 1 and July 1 will be classified 1-A. But they won't be inducted until one year passes, or until their enlistment expires, or until they are 25 years and 9 months old--whichever is sooner.
Members who enlisted after July 1 are 1-A and get no postponement at all.
If a reserve unit has been alerted, though, no one in it will be drafted--as long as he joined before October 1. The postponement last for the alert period.
