Albert C. Knaus 1E,accused of stealing $700 in checks from the University Mail Service, was released from the Cambridge City jail yesterday after pleading not guilty to 11 counts of larceny and 11 counts of forgery and uttering.
Knaus was arraigned before Judge Arthur P. Stone '93 in the Cambridge East District Court, and was released after Stone dropped the bail from $5,000 to $3,000. Friends of Knaus posted real estate for the required sum, and the case is scheduled for trial on January 26.
A graduate of Marietta college in Ohie, Knaus is studying for his Master's degree in Arts and Teaching. He was arrested Monday by Cambridge Police after an investigation of the Mail Service.
Knaus is married and is a veteran of two and a half years of service with the Marines in the South Pacific.
