Within three months, the residence at 33 Garden Street will become the International Students Center. Final approval for the project was granted by the Cambridge City Council at a meeting yesterday afternoon.
Plans for the transfer from the present quarters at 5 Phillips Place to the larger building were begun last year. City zoning ordinances, however, required a petition from the organization to change the zoning designation of the property from "residential" to "educational."
Serves All Colleges
All Colleges in the Boston area are served by the Center. It acts as a meeting place for foreign students, and includes dances, parties, and lectures in its program. It is supported by gifts from the colleges and interested groups, and by individual donations.
The organization is now working on an International Varieties Show to be given February 23. Proceeds will go toward furnishing the new building on Garden Street.
