Sandler Will Lead Council

Vote Johnson, McCagg As Treasurer, Sec'y Of 1951-52 Council

Richard Martin Sandler '52 of Dunster House and Verona, New Jersey, was last night elected president of the 1951-52 Student Council. Sandler's election came after a prolonged debate during which time the counell considered instituting the office of co-chairman, which would be staffed by Sandler and his presidential opponent, Chase N. Peterson '52.

The new council, which took office last night, also elected Richard Eugene Johnson '53 of Dunster House and Galesburg, Illinois, as treasurer. His opponent was Thomas W. Hoya '53.

The group elected Louis Butler Mc-Cagg, Jr. '52 of Winthrop House and Katonah, New York, as secretary. There were three other men nominated for this post.

No Co-Chairman, 8-5

The proposal of create the post of co-chairman was defeated, 8 to 5, by the new council. Supporters of this move wanted to establish the office without changing the council constitution, which specifically states that the offices of the council shall be a president, secretary, and treasurer.

Finishing its business for the year, the retiring council made three more appointments: George W. Miller, III '52 of Dunster House, and Robert H. Cole '52 of Lowell House, and Robert H. Cole '52 of Kirkland House.

Earlier this week the out-going council appointed one of its members, Richard Lyman Bushman '52 of Kirkland House and Salt Lake City, to serve until June as an appointive member of the new council. He voted with the new council last night.
