Metcalf to Meet Foreign Dealers

European booksellers who deal with the University will receive a visit this summer from Keyes D. Metcalf, director of the University Library System. Metcalf will leave for Europe May 16 in order to renew old contacts with dealers and to get first hand information on sources which have not been investigated for several years.

A second aspect of Metcalf's trip is to represent the Association of Research Libraries, a cooperative buying plan which includes 47 large college libraries. Each library obtains all the European books printed on certain specified subjects.

The University's two chief topics are Anthropology and Fine Arts, while it is also in charge of several minor subjects.

There are 12 countries now in the cooperative system, and Metcalf hopes that this number will soon be enlarged. Eight of the countries in the plan are European while the other four are Latin American.

William A. Jackson, director of Houghton Library, will fill Metcalf's position until Jackson himself leaves for Europe in June.
