Polo Team Rips Cornell 11-6, Wins Outdoor Championship

The polo team won the Intercollegiate Outdoor Polo Championship at Pittsfield Saturday, coming from behind to defeat a favored Cornell squad, 11 to 6.

Cornell stopped the Crimson cold for the first two chukkers; at halftime the Ithacans held a 6 to 2 lead over a lethargic Harvard trio.

But with the start of the third chukker, the Crimson seemed to catch fire. Led by Sandy Calhoun and Walt Beveraggi, the team batted home nine goals, holding Cornell scoreless.

Calhoun scored two goals in the big third chukker rally which netted a total of five and gave the Crimson a permanent lead. Beveraggi, substituting for Tom Calhoun in the Number One position, also counted twice in that chukker. Sandy Calhoun broke loose in the final chukker, scoring four times to clinch the game.
