Richard S. Chamberlain, Jr. '53, of Lionel Hall was reported in "fairly good" condition last night at Newton-Wellesley Hospital following injuries suffered in a Yard championship softball game yesterday afternoon at Soldiers Field.

Hospital officials said Chamberlain was being kept under observation for "possible internal injuries," It is believed that he may have suffered a ruptured spleen.

Chamberlian was playing first base for Lionel in a geam against Matthews North when he was involved in a collision with a Matthews players who was attempting to run out a seventh-inning infield hit.

The game was halted immediately while Roebrt L. Fischelsis '49 1L, Lionel proctor, bicycled to Dillon Field House in search of medical aid. No doctor ws available and Fistulas returned to the field after reporting the accident.

No Doctor at Dillon

Two Mattews players went to Dillion shortly afterward and returned with Joseph Murphy, X-ray technician, who supervised the transportation of Chamberlain by stretcher back to Dillon. A doctor arrived at 5 p.m., approximately 45 minutes after the accident occurred.

Lionel players were unanimously indignant last night over the fact that Chamberlain lay unattended on the field for almost an hour before medical aid was available.

Gordon L. Brumm '53, the manager, commented, "It seems very lax on the part of officials of the hygiene and athletic departments not to have a doctor on duty at all times while contests are going on in the afternoon. Dick's injury was serious and may have been made more so by the delay."
