Kirkland ran away with the House track meet yesterday, taking five first places to amass a total of 46 points; runner-up Lowell had only 20. Bob Di Blasio and Joe Walsh paced the Deacons with two victories each. Di Blasio with two 100 and 220 yard dashes, while Walsh took the 440 yard run and the 120 yard low hurdles.
Added to the 27 points the Deacons picked up Monday, their 46 point bonanza yesterday enabled them to win the House Track and Field Championship with 73 points.
The championship gives Kirkland and inside track for the Straus Trophy, although Lowell still retains a mathematical chance of clinching the cup. Several postponed baseball games and golf matches will be played this week to determine the House championship.
The Deacons, who held a 10 1/2 point lead over Lowell after Monday's field program, took first place in every event but the half mile. George Williams of the Bellboys took that the one in the adequate time of 2:08.9. Dick Welch of Lowell wrestled second place from Jim Downey of Adams.
Di Blasio who, like Walsh, was on the varsity track squad this spring without winning a letter, had no trouble winning the 100. His time was 10.5, with Jerry Gallow of Levered second, and Quent Stiles, of Kirkland, third, Di Biasio's most impressive win, however, was the 220, in which he finished 16 feet ahead of Dudley's John Coan and Bill Parks of Adams.
John Pankey of Kirkland run a good race to take the mile run in 4:59.5. Panky, Wells Cogge shall of Lowell, and Al Master of Winthrop outdistanced a large field and battled for the lead.
Walsh easily won the 440 in 54.5 seconds. The feature of this race, however, was the stretch sprint of Welch, who drove up through the pack in the last turn to take second place.
Walsh picked up his second victory in the 120-yard low hurdles. Jack Ellis of Eliot finished second and John Stoner of the Deacons third. The winning time was 15 seconds.
Lowell's total for the two-day meet was 36 1/2 points, exactly half Kirkland's score. Eliot was a distant third, with 21 points, while Adams and Winthrop tied for fourth with 16 each.
