Freshman baseball coach Dolph Samborski will lead his ace when he sends Bob Ward to the mound against M.I.T. in a game at Tech at 4 p.m. today. Ward threw a two-hitter at the Engineers in the Yardlings' opener, April 12, winning, 13 to 2.
Samborski plans to stick with his usual lineup except for the left field slot, where Lew Arnow will replace Russ Johnson. Johnson has an exam. Also, Samborski has not yet decided whether he will start Amory Hubbard or Chuck Wade behind the bat.
The Tech team, hampered by lack of experience and practice space, will carry a one and three record into today's game. Only two men on the squad played high school ball, and Coach Roy Merrit says he's had to "start from Abner Doubleday," teaching fundamentals to the others. In addition, the Engineers have to practice indoors.
Rain cancelled the Yardlings' last contest, against Andover Saturday. With six games remaining, Samborski's squad has a record of six victories and one loss. Exeter's strong nine will provide the opposition Saturday at Soldiers Field.
