The Graduate Student Council yesterday lost its battle for very liberal parietal rules in the graduate dormitories with the announcement from Dean Rogers that the new regulations will still require that girls be entertained in pairs.

The Council had been working for rules that would permit a man to have a girl alone in his room.

New rules for GSAS men in Conant and Perkins Halls are very similar to the ones adopted last month for law students. They allow girls to be entertained until 1 a.m. on Saturdays and days before holidays and until 12 midnight on all other days.

When the new rules go into effect as soon as machinery to operate them is provided, permission from proctors will no longer be necessary to have girls in the rooms. Students will sign dates in and out on cards to be deposited in boxes in the halls.

The old rules allowed women in the dormitories only until 10 p.m., with special permission needed to have girls up to 12 midnight.

At its meeting last night the Council agreed to cooperate with the Dean's Office in enforcing the new regulations. Three Council members each from Conant and Perkins will be selected to handle the enforcement.

If a floor in one of the halls wants to elect its discipline official, the Council man will be replaced.

Provost Buck will meet with the Council on April 20. Possible means of reducing room rents may come up at that time. The Council has discussed cutting maid service to one-third of the present amount in the halls, as well as abandoning the idea of buying, new furniture for the rooms.
