55 Garden Asks Extended Permit

Radcliffe authorities will go before the Cambridge Board of Appeals at 4 p.m. this afternoon to request a permit to use the building at 55 Garden Street as a dormitory through the academic year 1951-52.

55 Garden Street has served as a temporary dormitory since 1945 under two-year permits, awarded by the City of Cambridge. The present license expired last year, and the college's recent application for a permanent permit for the building was denied on the grounds that city zoning laws limit that section of Garden Street to single and two-family houses.

The college plans to discontinue using 55 Garden Street and other "off-Quad" houses when its new dormitory is ready for occupation in September, 1953.
