The varsity fencers lost, 14 to 13, to Columbia Saturday in the Blockhouse. Meanwhile, the ski team placed second as Amherst upset Harvard and Williams in a triangular meet at Amherst.
A close bout in foils between Ray Frankmann and Bob Nielson of Columbia, captains of their respective teams, highlighted the fencing match.
Bill Wasserman carried off double honors for the skiers as he placed first in the downhill, and won the award for the best four-event skier in the meet. John Hart won the cross-country, and Don Justice the slalom, as Harvard placed high in all but the downhill. The scores were Amherst, 376.6; Harvard, 372.9; Williams, 360.
Graduate student Don Henderson, Crimson ski coach, jumped 192 and 184 feet to place fifth in the White Mountain ski tournament at Berlin, N.H.
