Debaters Defeat Cornell, Fordham

The Debate Council kept first place in the Ivy League by defeating Cornell last night in the Eliot House Junior Common Room.

Richard S. Stewart '51, and Richard W. Hulbert '51 took the affirmative on the subject: "Resolved, That the basic non-agricultural industries should be nationalized." The victors stressed that "private property prevents the full use of basic industries in the public's interest."

The same topic was successfully argued last night in a non-tournament debate with Fordham. Lester L. Ward '52 and John G. Morey '52 supported the affirmative. It was the ninth win in the last ten non-Ivy League debates.

Stewart and Hulbert will debate against Pennsylvania University Wednesday, at Harvard.
