Lack of funds for continued support of Displaced Persons students in four Houses is causing a thorny inter-House problem over distribution of the Student Council's money which can be allocated to help the D.P.'s. The House are Leverett, Adams, Winthrop, and Lowell.

Of the five Houses which will have D.P.'s in 1950-51, only Dunster has a sufficient reserve to pay the undergraduate contribution toward the D.P.'s college bills. Dunster fears that because it is able to meet its obligations, it will be cut off from Council funds, which will then be split between the other four.

A meeting of the House Committee chairmen is scheduled for Wednesday to decide whether Dunster should waive Council funds or whether the other four Houses should seek by individual drives to augment their own D.P. accounts and make a five-way split possible.

Kirkland, whose John Czernyha is getting married, and Eliot, whose Peter Danes is going to the Business School, will not house D.P.'s next year.

A Student Council Sub-Committee on D.P.'s estimates the foreign students' annual expenses at about $1,550 apiece. The University provided tuition scholarships last year and will do so gain if the D.P.'s maintain Group IV grades.

Summer work and part time winter work will add another $400 to the D.P.'s funds, the committee figures. The separate House committees and the Council are expected to donate the remaining $550.

A check last night showed Dunster could muster the whole $550, Winthrop had nothing on the books for next year, Adams had $100, and Lowell would have about $300.

If necessary, the Council can contribute $1500 to the D.P. fund.
