Vera, Overholser Will Fence for NCAA Title At Detroit Tomorrow

Joe Vera, Joe Overholser, and coach Rene Perey of the fencing team left yesterday for Detroit, where the two Harvard fencers will compete in the NCAA Fencing Championships tomorrow and Saturday at Wayne University.

No Harvard men were originally scheduled to enter the tournament, but the HAA reversed its decision, and the University will be represented in the Nationals, which were overlooked last year.

Vera, who won the Eastern Intercollegiate foils championship Saturday, will be a favorite in the tournament, which is usually dominated by eastern colleges.

Won Five Matches

Handicapped by an injured leg and wrist, Vera was still able to win all five of his finalist matches in the eastern tournament. The leg injury kept him out of competition part of the season and probably led to the Crimson's loss of several close matches. Vera returned to score two wins in the Yale meet at the close of the season.

Overholser, the captain-elect of the fencers, placed fifth out of six in the finals for the Eastern Intercollegiate epee championship.
