Crimson skiers saw some clever ice sculpting, but that was the only consolation reaped from two days of competition at the Dartmouth Winter Carnival at Hanover, Friday and Saturday.
Dartmouth's smoothly functioning team swept the downhill and cross-country races, and the jumping laurels, taking first place with a combined team score of 588.6. Harvard was ninth in a field of ten with 501.6 points.
Non-skiing Crimson representatives fared better in the less athletic aspects of the Carnival. Three nights of fraternity parties went off in an aura of ice statues depicting among other things a girl astride a dolphin made from frozen orange juice and "Wunderbar," a 26 foot high ice statue of a bear in the center of the campus.
Top Crimson skiers were John Hart, 16th in cross country; Jerry Porter, 20th in the downhill and 22nd in the down-hill slalom combined; and George Abbott, 20th in the combined race and 26th in the downhill.
