Progressives Rap Navy Certificate

Pledging continued opposition to all features of the NROTC loyalty certificate, the Young Progressives last night voted endorsement of the joint student organization resolution condemning the oath's "informer clause."

In announcing the Young Progressives' action, President Lowell P. Beveridge, Jr. '52, stressed the fact that his group opposes the loyalty certificate on broader grounds than expressed in the joint resolution. He condemned the certificate on several grounds, especially the "guilt by association" concept which he said was basic to it.

Ready to Cooperate

Beveridge announced his group ready to cooperate on a University-wide petition with all other student organizations which oppose the certificate. "We will do all we can to press for action to eliminate the certificate," he said.

The Young Republicans, also scheduled to discuss the loyalty certificate last night, postponed their meeting until next Thursday. The certificate will be brought up at that time, according to Jay E. Jansen '50, president.
