Cornell Strike Settled Open Shop Continues

Cornell University announced last night that the 11-day-old strike of maintenance employees has been settled. The pact involves clarification of the school's employe relation policy. The University and the union have agreed to have an open shop without discrimination and to maintain "harmonious contact" in matters affecting employe relations and grievances.

About 100 of Cornell's 800 employees had been out since Nov. 25, demanding University recognition of Local 296, A.F. of L. Building Service Maintenance Employes Union. Lack of cooperation in not giving workers opportunity of deciding between representation by Local 296 or a University-sponsored organization was another union complaint.
