ECAC Probes TV Effects on Gate Receipts

Television's effect on attendance at college sporting events will be one of the main topics of discussion when the Eastern College Athletic Conference begins its annual meetings in New York tomorrow.

Although William J. Bighham '16, director of athletics, will not reveal his rein on the subject until the meeting, Yale's Robert Hall has already committed himself.

In an address to the New Haven Advertising Club last week, Hall said that television has very definitely cut into the gate receipts at New Haven. Although he did not indicate whether or not Yale would continue to allow its home games to be televised, he did point out that the Eli athletic budget would have to be curtailed to combat the dwindling gate receipts.

The E.C.A.C. television committee is headed by Ralph Furey, director of athletics at Columbia, and after a preliminary meeting tomorrow, the committee will report to the entire conference on Friday.
