College administrators are meeting this week to decide whether or not to continue intercollegiate sports in the event of a large scale draft, the CRIMSON learned last night.
The administrators belong to the Manpower Committee of the Association of American Universities. President Conant is a member of this committee but cannot take part in the discussions because he is still convalescing from an operation he underwent early this fall.
Henry M. Wriston, president of Brown University and a member of the manpower committee, said in a newspaper interview yesterday that he intended to recommend continuation of all intercollegiate sports so long as there are enough men willing to go out for teams.
He added that he advocated this policy despite the fact that the lowered caliber of sports, inevitable when student bodies are constantly drained by a draft, would probably cause financial losses for all athletics.
During World War II, most colleges in the Ivy League, including Harvard, dropped formal athletics and merely kept up a few rivalries informally.
