LOUIS BY DECISION

Joe Louis hit the comeback trial with an unimpressive but unanimous ten round decision over Cesar Brion, Argentine champion, in the Chicago Stadium last night.

The ex-World's Heavyweight Champion, who ruled the division for 11 years with 22 knockouts in 25 title defenses, outboxed the 23-year-old South American aspirant, but failed to show any trace of his one-time bombs that formerly laid his opponents low. The verdicts of referee Frank Gilmor and the two judges were in almost complete accord. The judges voted 55 to 45 for Louis, with Referee Gilmor balloting 56 to 44 for the former titleholder.

MARION NAME BY CARDS

Shortshop Marty Marion was named player-manager of the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday. He immediately predicted the club would cause trouble for the other National League teams in 1951. Marion's appointment was announced at an afternoon press conference yesterday by owner Fred Saigh, who said he settled on Marty at 9 a.m. this morning.

The long, lanky shortstop, who has been with St. Louis for 11 years, signed a one-year contract for an undisclosed sum. He succeeds Eddie Dyer, who quit in November after the Cards finished fifth.
