Provost Buck, for the first time since last spring, publicly stated yesterday the University's intentions to improve Crimson football. He told a Boston football writers luncheon at Dinty Moore's restaurant that "we don't like being in the cellar and we don't intend to remain there."

Reiterating the University's policy to continue with intercollegiate football, Buck told the sportswriters that "unlike Chicago, where they didn't want football, the Harvard family does want it."

Buck insisted that while the Crimson would lighten its schedule in the future, the team would continue in the Ivy League, and not as a doormat.

"Conscious of Sins"

The Provost said "we are perfectly conscious of the sins of commission and commission" which brought Harvard to its lowest gridiron depths. He added that "we are going to do everything we can by legitimate means to improve football."

Buck admitted that "the road ahead is rough, but I hope the results of our policy will show in the near future."

Buck wrote a report to the Corporation on the football situation last winter. The report, however, has never been released to the general public.
