It was just a normal Halloween in Harvard Square.
"There was some petty vandalism here and there, but the 16 boy scouts we sent to patrol the Square did a pretty good job," Lieutenant Mark E. Cunningham of the Cambridge Police reported last night.
Throughout the early hours of the evening, small, masked creatures appeared in doorways carrying the traditional Halloween objects, soap, chalk, and paper bags filled with candy.
According to the police there were only about ten or 12 false alarms which, "considering everything, was pretty good."
Several Radcliffe dorms held parties and Lieutenant Cunningham stated that he thought indoor activities of that sort had been an important factor in keeping vandalism down.
No noticeable damage had been done to any to the Harvard buildings, Cunningham revealed. "There were the usual chalked walls, and a new saying, Sock it to 'em', appeared several times."
