The flag of the United Nations was unfurled before University Hall yesterday along with the flags of the Harvard and the nation as the University commemorated the fifth anniversary of the United Nations.
Cambridge fire apparatus rang its bells at 12:02 p.m. as part of nation wide bell-ringing appeal requested by General Lucius D. Clay, chairman of the Committee for European Freedom. Memorial Hall and Church bells did not ring at this time, however.
James R. Stewart, superintendent of caretakers, who has charge of the Yard bell ringing, said that he had received no work about General Clay's request. The ringing was to have commemorated the dedication of the Freedom Bell in West Germany.
