Gone Are the Days

The Good Old Days are definitely over. Time was when a Harvard football team would think nothing of running up a pretty healthy score to mash some upstart West Point outfit. But now that Army has taken us 54 to 14 and 49 to 0, anyone can see it's time to draw in our hors little bit. We just seem to take a different view of football from most other people these days.

But other old time greats are taking hard knocks from this new high-pressure game too. Notre Demo also has been jolted from the top of the heap, losing to a couple of johuny-come-lately squads like Purdue and Indiana.

It's good to see that the grand old schools haven't lost that sensible, scholarly attitude about the game--the attitude which has preserved their reputations as primarily places of learning.

Let colleges like Notre Dame and Harvard stick together in these Troubled Times, scheduling games only among themselves. Then Saturday afternoons will be, as in the old days, a time for gentlemanly sport.
