Students who receive post cards from their draft boards informing them of their 1A status can escape being ordered to report for a physical simply by signing a card in University Hall 1.
The University upon request will send a grade transcript to the local board, Selective Service will then reclassify all men in the upper half of their class and defer them until graduation. The lower half will be assured of being ignored by their local boards at least until June.
For the lower half, men registered for selective service can enlist in a particular Service up to the time they receive orders to take pre-induction physicals. Some boards will withdraw orders for physical examinations.
