'53 Quintet Beats Huskies, 63-57, to Take Fourth Win

The freshman basketball team grabbed its fourth victory in five starts from an eager but sloppy Northeastern quintet Saturday night, beating the Huskies, 63 to 57, at the Boston YMCA.

After a slow start the Yardlings built up a 15 to 7 first period lead on guard Buddy Lemay's set shots and forward Jim Urdan's lay ups, only to have Northeastern close this lead to 28 to 24 at the half.

A nine point Yardling lead in the second half was sliced to two points by Northeastern in a late game spurt. With the pressure on Urdan, center Dick Lionette, and forward Ted Briggs took over the game for the Crimson with some clever lay ups.

The Crimson's 27 field goals to Northeastern's 23 was the margin to victory, but Northeastern aided the Yardling cause by sinking only 11 foul shots out of a possible 30.

The summary: HARVARD (63)   G  F  P Urdan, f  6  1  13 Lionette, c  5  1  11 Nichols  3  4  10 Lemay, g  4  0  8 Briggs  3  0  6 Hansen, g  2  2  6 Heller  2  0  4 Judson, f  1  1  3 Myers  1  0  2 Canepa  0  0  0 Stonestreet  0  0  0
