The first three buildings of the University's garden-type housing project on the site of the old Botanical Gardens will be ready for occupancy on November 1, 1949, it was announced yesterday.

These units, at the corner of Garden Street and Linnaean Street, consist of one three-storey and two two-storey structures. The apartments range in size from three to five rooms.

The second group of buildings, on the corner of Linnaean Street and Raymond Street, consisting of a three-storey and a combination two-and-three storey building which contains the same sort of apartments will be available about December 1, 1949.

Largest Section

Around January 1, 1950, the largest section of the housing project will open to occupants. This portion of the apartment building program is made up of a three-storey building built on three sides of a garden court and a similar structure adjacent to it on Raymond Street.

Five single and six semi-detached houses form the balance of the development will be completed about February 15, 1950.

The tentative rent schedule for the development runs from $115 a month for three-room apartments to $185 a month for some of the houses. In accordance with the Rent Act of 1949, all units will be offered to veterans of World War II during construction and for a thirty-day period after completion. All units not rented by veterans will then be available to other members of the faculty, students, staff of the University, and the general public
