The names of 268 high school graduates who have received Harvard scholarships were announced today by F. Skiddy von Stade, Jr. '24, Director of Scholarships.
The awards come in four categories:
1. National Scholarships. These go to 49 men in 21 states. The recipients must be students "of exceptional ability and promise who have distinguished themselves as leaders in extra-curricular as well as in scholastic activities." If the National Scholar maintains honor grades, his grant is renewed for three years.
2. Freshman Scholarships. These form the bulk of the College's awards, which go to men of "high academic and personal promise." The scholarships are all renewable.
3. Harvard Club Scholarships are granted by individual Clubs throughout the nation. Many of these grants have not yet been announced and therefore do not appear below.
4. Prize Scholarships. These go to graduates of New England private schools. The recipients are selected from a group nominated by headmasters of private schools which in any two of the past five years have sent five or more men to Harvard.
A few of the men on the following list have not accepted their scholarships, but their names appear as the original recipients.
The list is arranged geographically, according to the high school from which the students graduated.
