Three and possibly four assistant deans will resign next month in the biggest Dean's Office turnover since the end of the war, it was reported last night.

Assistant Dean Norman Harrower, Jr. is leaving to take a job in Oklahoma City, while Assistant Dean Robert W. Sides '38 will return to his teaching position at Phillips Andover Academy. Sides has been on a two year leave of absence.

Judson T. Shaplin '41, assistant dean of Freshmen, has been appointed Registrar of the Graduate School of Education, it was stated. George P. Mayhew '41 will probably be named to succeed him as assistant freshman dean; Mayhew has been an instructor in English A for the past few years.

Fenn May Quit

Dan H. Fenn '44 may resign as assistant dean of Freshman before the beginning of the fall term, to assume a full time job with the Foreign Policy Association, it was learned. Fenn already holds a part time job with the Association.

Dean Bender explained last night that these resignations are nothing unusual, merely representing normal turnover in the Dean's Office. An assistant dean is appointed annually, he explained, and usually holds the job for two to four years. Only one new upperclass dean will be appointed next year to fill the two vacancies, Bender reported. This decrease in deans corresponds to the cuts in enrollment, he said. Before the war there were only two upperclass deans. However, another man may be appointed to serve both in the Dean's Office and with the Director of Scholarships. Dean Bender added.
