Yale Sweeps E.I.S.L. Swim Competition; Crimson 7th

Bob Kiphuth's Yale swimming team swept the Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League championships with a tidal wave of points in every event at Princeton Saturday night.

The Eil team performance, which gave Yale a total of 75 points in the meet, 48 more than second-place Rutgers and 68 more than seventh-place Harvard was matched only by the brilliant swimming of Joe Verdour of LaSalle. Verdeur won the 300-yard individual relay for his third straight year and set a new intercollegiate record by speeding the distance in 3:25.2, 70 feet in front of Yale's McMullen.

In Saturday's finals, none of Hal Ulen's varsity contrived a point. Yale dominated the meet all the way, and although all scoring is on an individual basis, unofficial tabulation makes the Blue squad the East's best.

Norris Takes Only Title

Only Crimson champion in the three day competition was Ted Norris, who won the 1500-meter freestyle crown Thursday night. In so doing, Norris edged out Yale's Emil Estoclet, favored swimmer in the race.

Verdeur's record-breaking conquest Saturday overshadowed the upset victories registered by Dartmouth's Jock McIntyre in winning the 300-yard freestyle and Don DeForrest, Pennsylvania captain, in taking the 440-yard freestyle.

The unofficial team standings:

Yale, 75; Rutgers, 27; LaSalle, 23; Dartmouth, 19; Army, 18; Penn, 11; Harvard and Navy, 7; Colgate, 6; Princeton and Duke, 5; Seton Hall, 4; Syracuse, Cornell and Temple, 1.
