Varsity swordsmen foot off to a slow start in the Intercollegiate Fencing Association meet in New York yesterday, and last night were languishing in eighth place in the 13-team field.
The Crimson was tied with Cornell with 23 points at the end of the first day of competition. The meet will resume today and end tonight.
NYU played a violent game in foil and saber and took a slim lead over City College for first place. The Violets have 42 points while CCNY, present holder of the three-weapon title, picked up 38.
Navy Takes Epee
Navy won the epee hands down and last night was in third place with 35 points. Princeton was fourth with 32. The remaining standings were Rutgers and Army 29, Yale 28, Harvard and Cornell 23, MIT 21, Columbia 20, Penn State, 18, and Penn 13.
The fifty-second annual meet is being held at City College. Rene Peroy took his complete 11 man squad down to represent the Crimson.
