Book thieves are finding projects more challenging than Lamont this year. Philip J. McNiff, Head Librarian of Lamont, reported yesterday that the loss of books is less of a problem now than it was last year.
Not many men are trying to take out books surreptitiously, he said, and the few that are seem to be returning their "stolen books." Exact information will not be known until June when the annual inventory is taken.
Last summer's inventory, however, showed that a number of men had taken Lamont books to improve their personal libraries.
"Our main worries today," McNiff said, "are those students who take a large number of books off the shelf, although they can only use one book at a time."
McNiff reported that his library aides are making regular tours asking students to surrender the books they are not using then.
